====== Exoplanets ======

There is two way to show position of star with an exoplanet in Skychart.

====Install a standard catalog====

This require Skychart version 4.3 or higher.
  *Use the menu Update / Install object catalog.
  *In the "Specialized data" tab look for "Open Exoplanet Catalog"
  *Click the button **...** on the left to install.

====Import a VOTable====

This page show how to add exoplanet display to Skychart using the Virtual Observatory [[vo_samp|SAMP]] interface.

You first need to install [[http://aladin.u-strasbg.fr/aladin.gml|Aladin]] or [[http://www.star.bris.ac.uk/~mbt/topcat/|Topcat]] and initialize the [[vo_samp|SAMP]] functions in Skychart.\\
Be sure SAMP is configured to accept table from other application and to keep them for offline use:\\

When ready start first Aladin or Topcat, then Skychart, be sure the SAMP connection between the two is active using the menu menu View / SAMP / SAMP Status.\\

If not use the menu View / SAMP / Connect to SAMP hub.

Open the page [[http://exoplanet.eu/catalog/]] in your web browser.\\

On the bottom of the page, click on **Download as VOTable**.\\
Select to save the file "exoplanet_catalog.vot" in your Download directory.


From Aladin, open the menu File / Load local file..., select the file "exoplanet_catalog.vot".

Open the menu Interop / Broadcast selected table to... / skychart\\

If using Topcat, load the file from teh menu File / Load table. Select the table on the list on the left,
then the menu Interop / Send table to... / skychart\\

That's all, the exoplanet catalog is now installed in Skychart.\\
The stars with an exoplanet are marked on the chart with a red square and you can search for a planet name from the search bar. All the information are show in the detail window.\\

You can now use this data offline without the need to be connected to Topcat or the web page.

As exoplanet data are updated frequently you can update the data in Skychart simply by repeating the procedure above.

You can also use all the Topcat power to make data selection and send it to Skychart. See this [[https://www.ap-i.net/skychart/en/documentation/vo_samp#example|example]] for more details.

The catalog display can be changed from the menu Setup / Catalog / [[catalog#vo_catalog|VO Catalog]]\\
